Most Sunday Singles Matches Won in Ryder Cup History
Sunday Singles Matches make for the best theater of the Ryder Cup each year. After two days of Foursomes and Four-Ball matches, winning the Ryder Cup requires each player to go head-to-head against their opponent to deliver the final points needed for the their team.
Because of the number of points available on Sunday, the scoreboard can take wild swings to put the Cup out of reach or erase large leads built up over the previous days.
In the modern format since 1979, there are 12 points available on Sunday. The record for most singles matches won in a session is 8.5 and has been achieved twice in two of the most dramatic Ryder Cups of all time.
In 1999 at Brookline, the U.S. side won 8.5 points to win the Ryder Cup, the matches now known as the "Battle of Brookline."
In 2012 at Medinah, Europe also won 8.5 points to win the Ryder Cup, forever dubbed the "Miracle at Medinah."
