Fitzpatrick jumps to top of European Team Ranking after FedEx Open de France victory

Matt Fitzpatrick jumped 23 places to the top of the European Team Rankings following his 11th DP World Tour victory at the FedEx Open de France, leading the way on 306.1 points.

The Englishman took the lead on Friday at Le Golf National and extended his advantage to five shots on Saturday before ultimately closing out a three-stroke victory. The result saw him vault above Joe Dean, whose maiden Tour victory in the Husqvarna British Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo had put him at the top of the early standings.

The World Number Four waited until the 13th hole for his first birdie of the day, by which time Eugenio Chacarra had cut his overnight five-shot lead to two. But Fitzpatrick's scrambling skills ensured he closed out his 11th DP World Tour win with a round of 70.

He said: "Obviously delighted to get it over the line, it was definitely a battle today. Didn't have my best stuff for the first 12 holes, there's a lot of patience but coming down the stretch today, to hit the shots that I did and make the putts I did was special.

"To win the French Open with the history it has, and just look in here, you've got Sir Nick Faldo twice here and Seve Ballesteros (four times), it's nice to be a part of those names."

Fitzpatrick is looking to secure his place in a fifth Ryder Cup, having represented Europe in 2016 and 2021, as well as on the winning sides at Marco Simone in 2023 and Bethpage Black in 2025.

Spain's Angel Hidalgo finished runner-up on 17 under and claimed the place in The 155th Open at St Andrews on offer to the highest finisher not already exempt. He also moved up 12 places to fourth in the Ranking.

Chacarra, whose 62 on Saturday was the best round of the week, moved up six spots to fifth and is currently one place above Rory McIlroy.

Shane Lowry, the other member of the 2025 Ryder Cup team currently inside the top six, occupies third place following his victory at the BMW PGA Championship.
